Klamath Basin NWR - Part 1

We made the trip up to the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges again! Boy, was it beautiful!

I compared our latest photos with the ones we took in March of 2015 and the landscape was a lot browner this time...

March 2017
We started out at the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge and our Bird of the Day was this Great Horned Owl:

Any birding day you can start off by seeing an owl is a good one!

We saw red-winged blackbirds, coots, mallards, pintails, shovelers, scaups, pheasants, and A LOT of Buffleheads! I don't think we've ever seen that many Buffleheads in one place before!

Whenever I see a Bufflehead, my mission is to get that perfect "rainbow" effect of their feathers in the sunlight.

This Rough-legged Hawk was enjoying the scenery as much as we were...

This jet doesn't have feathers, but it does have wings! It flew over us when we were on the viewing platform.
Too bad I can't add it to the Big Year 2017 list!

In the coming days I'll be posting pics of the Grebes we saw, along with two immature Bald Eagles...
