My Backyard Say's Phoebe Returns

This adorable little Say's Phoebe keeps returning to my backyard on a regular basis, so I've decided it's time to give him/her a name. Any suggestions?

Who needs a bug zapper when you've got your own flycatcher?!

Refuge Greeters

It's always nice to receive a warm welcome when you arrive at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge!
This Black Phoebe was on the sign, waving us in...

And this Say's Phoebe was right there on the other side of the road, doing his part to welcome visitors, too!

More Birding in the Rain

Rain doesn't keep this determined birder away from the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge!
Last month, I was so excited to spot a Say's Phoebe in my backyard birdbath and then I saw one first thing on the auto tour at the refuge!

Double Dose of Phoebe

I have to say, our backyard birdbath does really well ensuring that we have return visitors. The other day when I posted excitedly about the Say's Phoebe we received a visit from, I had no idea he would return the next couple of days in a row!

Although they're in the same family, the Black Phoebe is so much puffier than the Say's! I just love watching these cute little guys flying around catching bugs near the birdbath.
He's not a flycatcher, but here's a bonus Lincoln's Sparrow to complete today's post...
He obviously wasn't too happy about the latest heatwave, (hey, at least we provided him with some refreshing water!) but I 'm confident it's the last one of the season and that fall weather is finally on its way!

Say, is that a Phoebe at my birdbath?

We were thrilled to spot this cute Say's Phoebe at our birdbath!

We've only ever seen this type of Phoebe one other time on the Discovery Marsh Trail at Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, so it was awesome spotting one in our own backyard!

Apparently, we live in its migration path and are happy to provide fresh water to this weary traveler!
Safe Travels!

Birding Variety Pack

In yesterday's post about our walk through the Discovery Marsh Trail at Lower Klamath NWR, I focused on the American Robins we saw. But there were a lot more birds than just Robins there!

We saw Song Sparrows, Golden-crowned Sparrows and European Starlings...

In fact, I was so distracted with getting pics of this cute little Junco that I almost didn't see the Flicker perched right next to him in the same tree!

This Red-winged Blackbird was so engrossed in his energetic song that he didn't even pay any attention to us at the observation blind...

And, according to my ID app, we also spotted our very first Say's Phoebe!
Too cute!

Tomorrow I'll be posting some birds of prey, posing in front of a magnificent backdrop...
