Wonderful Waterfowl ☼ Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge
Besides all of the Snow Geese we saw on the Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge auto tour, we also saw quite a few different duck species.
Some of the male Ruddy Ducks were getting their blue bills for breeding season......and some weren't...

Geese Galore ☼ Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge
I'd have to say that this was the most geese I've ever seen in one place before...
They were all shoved in together on the auto tour of the Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge and, boy, were they loud! What a sight to see that many geese together with the beautiful snow-capped mountains behind them...

I think this guy has the right idea!

Photo of the Day ☼ Handsome Hawk
It isn't every day that you can get a bird to pose perfectly for your camera. This handsome hawk didn't budge an inch when we drove next to it on the auto tour at the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge.
I mean, we were RIGHT next to it, like maybe ten feet away! (Oops, I probably should have kept that to myself so you thought I was in a photo blind with some fancy schmancy camera!)
Even when I was poised to get some video of it flying off, it would not move. In fact, it continued to sit on its sign long after we finally drove away.
As awesome as this guy was, it kind of ruined it for all the other birds we saw that day because they were so flighty in comparison!
Thanks, buddy, for allowing us to get our best shots of the day with you!

Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge ☼ Red-tailed Hawks
During our drive through the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge auto tour, we saw just as many red-tailed hawks as we did bald eagles--and that was A LOT!
It seemed like there was one perched in every tree and on every signpost...
Later this week, I'll feature an extra cooperative bird who was happy to pose for the camera...

Great Blue Heron Rookery ☼ Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge
I saw my first-ever Great Blue Heron rookery while we were driving through the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge auto tour--and it was AWESOME!
If you've been following my blog, you know that Blue Herons are my absolute favorite bird, so you can imagine the smile I had on my face when I was snapping these photos.
For those of you who prefer birds of prey, I've got some Red-tailed Hawk photos comin' your way on tomorrow's post...

Bald Eagles of Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuge
We've heard about the crazy amount of Bald Eagles hanging out in the Klamath Basin Wildlife Refuge in wintertime, and so we finally took the drive up to see for ourselves.
True enough, on the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, we spotted dozens of Bald Eagles...
Somehow, even when you see one right after the other of these amazing birds of prey, they never lose their beauty...
