Marvelous Magpies

We've been on a mission to get some Yellow-billed Magpie photos all throughout our Big Year. And guess what! We finally spotted a small flock of these magnificently beautiful birds on a country road (162) in Glenn County!
They are found in central and southern California and NOWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD!
How wonderful to live in their small territory!
We used to see magpies all the time in our area--at the grocery store, parking lots, on the roadside--but they seem to have become more elusive in recent years.

I'm so glad we happened to be at the right place at the right time to finally get some photos. Thanks to my hubby, we turned down a different road on our way from birding on Road P and just happened to see half a dozen of these striking birds.

Usually whenever we spot a bird we've been searching for, we end up seeing it everywhere we look from then on. Here's to hoping we see lots more magpies in the future!
