Creepy Crawlies

Bear with me here for a moment...

I've never taken a picture of a spider before (I think they're creepy and I have occasional nightmares about them crawling into my sheets at night), but this one I saw on the auto tour at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge looked too cool to pass up...
I guess you can see the beauty in anything if you squint hard enough!
Last week when we went birding at sunrise at the refuge, I explained about how the heavy smoke from the Carr Fire (and now the Mendocino Fire) is affecting our area.
 These photos of the sun really show how all that horrible fire smoke is choking the sky...

The sun definitely looks more like a planet here...
Moving onto happier sights, here are a couple of cute Mourning Doves sitting in the middle of the auto tour, preening...
