We kept hearing Acorn Woodpeckers during our walk through the Battle Creek Wildlife Area (in early-March), but didn't spot any...until we realized their granary tree was right there at the entrance to the parking area!
We only had time for a quick walk through the Battle Creek Wildlife Area, but next time I'll take some video so I can share it with you!
There were so many birds, butterflies and wildflowers to see and I can't wait to go back!
We saw several different types of woodpeckers, bald eagle, kingfisher, blackbirds, phoebe, goldeneye, bufflehead and ring-necked ducks, grebes...the list goes on and on...
I'm always thrilled when I get to add a new bird to my lifelist. And, after spotting our very first California Thrasher at the Battle Creek Wildlife Area, I can happily announce that number 199 is in the books!
Hopefully, I won't have to wait too long to finally get to 200!
