What a beautiful day to visit the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge!

Cloudy days might not make for the best photos, but they are still my favorite.

 We were excited to spot some Yellow-headed Blackbirds, too!

 As you might remember, we waited A LONG time to see these guys last year.

 The auto tour at the refuge offered some beautiful scenery...

Return Visitors

I'm happy to announce that the Black-chinned Hummingbird from a couple years ago has finally returned to our backyard!

Please forgive the quality of the photos as they were taken through the sliding glass door. (These photos from last time are much clearer.)

I love how that purple throat shimmers in the sunlight!

This feeder stand doesn't only attract hummingbirds either. The other day, I looked out to find a Western Kingbird hanging out on the perch...

 And, of course, the doves like it, too!

I can't wait to see who stops by next!

Backyard Oriole

"My" Hooded Oriole and his lady friend stop by my backyard every evening like clockwork. I tell you, it never gets old looking out and seeing his vibrant colors gracing my bird bath...

The female might have duller coloring, but she is no less beautiful...

He sure stands out!

Bath time is especially fun to watch...

Even if he's forced to share the water, he has no qualms about making a big splash!

Even if it's too hot to go birding at the refuge, the joys of backyard birdwatching are just as wonderful...

Backyard Bunting

Sometimes, among all the finches and sparrows, I see something truly spectacular land in my backyard. This time it was a Lazuli Bunting!

This was my very first time seeing a Bunting and, needless to say, I was absolutely thrilled!

Look at those beautiful bold colors! How exciting to have such a stunning bird come right to my backyard.

 And here is the female who accompanied the male...

 She's uniquely different from the other birds I normally see in my backyard, too!

And, because it's #PollinatorWeek, here is a bonus photo of a butterfly checking out my--you guessed it!--butterfly bush...
