Today's Hottest Fashions

We caught this Snowy Egret strutting his stuff on the auto tour at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge...

When you've got such gorgeous feathers, I suppose you can walk the refuge like it's a runway if you want!

And this next bird sighting is so exciting! We spotted a Green Heron! What a cool looking bird! The first (and only) time we ever saw one was at the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area. (You can read that post here.) I'm pretty sure this one is a juvenile...

And here are a few more things we came across...

I'll give you a little hint about the bird in tomorrow's post...it's nocturnal...

Are these ducks Green-winged Teals? They had a purple stripe on their heads instead of green and I don't think it was just a trick of the eye from the way the sun was shining. When they flew away, they looked purple with the naked eye, too.
 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Green-winged Teals???
And finally, something that's very easy to identify!

Springtime at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge

The refuge is beautiful during every season, but this year it's especially colorful after all the alternating rain and sunshine we've had.

Furry Refuge Friends

Birds aren't the only thing we see when we go to the Refuge! This time, there were all sorts of critters out and about enjoying springtime.

I also saw some not-so-furry Western Pond Turtles lounging on a log. Their happy little smiles were one of the highlights of my trip :)
