Colusa National Wildlife Refuge Auto Tour

During our latest drive through the auto tour at the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge, we were thrilled to find the most White-faced Ibis we've ever seen in one place before!

Plus, Great Egrets in a tree, a Black-crowned Night Heron rookery, a Double-crested Cormorant showing off its resting bird face, a log that looked like a giant hamster, and much more...

Western Meadowlarks Singing

The song of the Western Meadowlark is probably one of my all-time favorites. Then again, I say that about every bird!

Anywho, I had no idea how many meadowlarks I've filmed in the act, but once I started editing them together, I realized how many of these delightful birds have sung their beautiful song for me.

Whether they are on the ground, in a tree, or even perched on a telephone wire, I can't seem to get enough. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do...

Birding in the Fog

We've never been birding in the fog before and it was actually a fun adventure. The birds didn't seem as skittish as normal and we enjoyed watching the pheasants and the jackrabbits that usually dart away at the first sign of people.

There's something peaceful and calming about a world blanketed in thick fog. I guess it's because there aren't any outside distractions such as the surrounding views (as spectacular as they are!) to draw your attention away from the birds and wildlife.

I particularly enjoyed the White-faced Ibis showing off its yoga moves for me and the magnificent display of the male Wild Turkeys. And the woodpeckers' constant movement can wear a person out! Oh, and how could I forget the fighting pheasants?!

So many wonderful delights on this unexpectedly amazing day in the fog...

Bird Encounters in the California Countryside

Birding on the rural backroads is my favorite place to find birds! This time, we spotted a vibrant male American Kestrel, Black Phoebes, and more. I'm convinced those two Turkey Vultures are up to no good...

Plus, I never thought we'd encounter the second-largest living rodent during our birding adventure!
